Hi.

Welcome, if you're new, and welcome back, if you've returned. You've come to my personal webpage. That means the stuff here is personal. My business site, with more recent photos, is at dirtperminute.com

This site is much reduced from what it was, the deletion that gave me most pause was my "friends and family" page. Always a problem to decided who's a friend, who's family, who's just an acquaintance. So it's gone.

Love, at the right time in the right place:

  • old reggae and dub (Marley, Tosh, etc))
  • most kinds of blues (Bessie Smith, John Hurt, Koko Taylor, etc)
  • Kate Bush, Tori Amos, old Lorie Anderson, Joni Mitchell, Jane Siberry, Poe, Natacha Atlas, Alanis Morisette, Aretha Franklin
  • Muzsikás, Marta Sebestyén
  • most late mediaeval & renaissance & baroque music (Byrd, Gabrielli, Vivaldi, Telemann, etc)
  • Gordon Lightfoot, Pentangle, Steeleye Span
  • Manu Chao

Enjoy when in the right mood:

  • trashy hits of the 70s, 80s, 90s and 00s
  • Old Country, some New Country
  • some Folk
  • Cher, Lesley Gore, Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn, Nancy Sinatra, Tammy Wynette, the Judds, Bette Midler
  • ZZTop, KLF
  • Mahalia Jackson

Sometimes irritated by:

  • "rock n roll" from 50s and early 60s
  • The Beatles & their ilk, not because I think they're bad but only because I've been overexposed
  • muzak, especially the mildly-depressing-so-they'll-shop-more mall kind
  • Mariachi, Klezmer, German folk muzik
  • "new age" acid-trip environmental stylings

Will flee:

  • Rap and HipHop
  • loud braindead dance music, especially what's played in most queer bars
  • "classic" showtunes
  • "progressive" jazz (gee, I know there was a melody here SOMEwhere...)
  • Celine Dion, Barbra Steisand,
  • Elvis
